BIO

Leila Modaresi is a visual artist. Lives and works between Paris, Berlin and Vancouver.

She has participated in several international artist residencies.

Her works notably deal with contemporary global conflict, collective memory (art as a medium to resolve and heal the collective memories of trauma), as well as the notion of space and time as an element beyond our control.

Her works reflect a new perspective on daily life, giving inevitable life banalities a new direction and function.

Leila has presented her works in various exhibitions in Germany, France, Canada, Italy, etc. As a professor of art, she has taught multiple courses, including technical drawing, painting and Sculpture.

Leila received her Ph.D. in ‘Visual Arts and Musicology’ from Panthéon-Sorbonne University of Paris I: Theoretical dissertation: “Du Corps et du Vêtement comme Mémoire, Invention et Déplacement”.

Her dissertation discusses garment as a space of habitation for the body, shaped by the psyche and behaviour of the individual wearing it. The clothing thus becomes an object of memory, a notebook that records a lived experience in itself.

Besides, she has illustrated three books for children written by Pari Zangeneh, the distinguished soprano singer.
